Carp Cyprinus carpius
Carp
is without a doubt the most popular course fish of all, they grow larger than
any other coarse fish in Britain, excluding the rare catfish. They'll eat
virtually anything if they are hungry.
- IDENTIFICATION: Long dorsal fin, two long barbules at
corners of mouth.
- LIFESPAN: Can live over 40 years.
- WEIGHT: Up to 20lb (2001)
- BEST BAIT: Bread, worms, boilies, corn

Tench Tinca tinca

The Tench is a sturdily built fish with small
scales embedded in it's olive green body. A feeding tench will often release a
stream of tiny bubble which can be seen on the surface
- IDENTIFICATION: Small eyes, olive green skin, two
long barbules at corners of mouth.
- LIFESPAN: 12 to 15 years.
- WEIGHT: Up to 12lb
- BEST BAIT: Red-worms, red-maggots, kidney beans

Roach Rutilus rutilus

The Roach fish is one
of our smaller fish and is very common in most of our ponds.
- IDENTIFICATION: elongated tailfin with silver scales
- WEIGHT: Up to 4lb
- BEST BAIT: Worms, maggots, sweetcorn

Bream
Abramis brama

The common bream is well known for its strikingly
deep body with highly compressed side and a distictive mouth.
- IDENTIFICATION: dark back with a green tinge, white
belly
- WEIGHT: Up to 15lb
- BEST BAIT: Worms, maggots, castors and bread.
- LIFESPAN: 20 to 25 years.

Gudgeon
Gobio gobio

Gudgeon are small, thin fish which often shoal and usually
remain on the bottom.
- IDENTIFICATION: barbules on either side of the mouth,
up to a dozen dark spots running on either side.
- SIZE: 10-12cm long
- BEST BAIT: Worms, maggots.

Perch Perca fluviatilis

Perch are handsome fish that are easily recgonisable. They
are also very aggressive and hungry fish.
- IDENTIFICATION: two olive coloured dorsal fins,
bigger perch are more humped back
- WEIGHT: Up to 4lb
- BEST BAIT: Worms, maggots, lobworm.
- LIFESPAN: up to 10 years.

Rudd Scardinius erythropthalmus

Felton Fence is home to both Rudd and Golden Rudd
- IDENTIFICATION: Silvery or white bodies when young,
red fins when matured.
- WEIGHT: Up to 3lb
- BEST BAIT: Worms, cereals, seeds.
- LIFESPAN: up to 10 years.
